Otapay was founded by Ikechukwu Mbadiwe, popularly known as Iking Ferry, a purpose-driven entrepreneur from Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Growing up in a rural community plagued by no electricity, poor roads, and limited access to quality education and healthcare, Ikechukwu experienced firsthand the daily struggles faced by underserved communities.

While pursuing a B.Sc. in Financial Accounting at the University of Lagos, Iking Ferry launched Otapay—naming it after his hometown, “Otam”—with a bold vision to bring digital innovation and financial inclusion to people who need it most.
